Thoroughbred Tracks

Aqueduct

Aqueduct opened on Sept. 27, 1894 in Queens. In 1941, a new clubhouse and track offices were built. The track was torn down in 1956 and the new "Big A" opened in 1959. In 1975 the inner track was constructed to facilitate winter racing.

Arapahoe Park

Aurora , Colorado – Arapahoe Park showed marked increases in on-track attendance and mixed handle numbers as the 2007 season concluded here yesterday. The meet was the second under the ownership of BLB Investors, LLC. On-track attendance rose significantly by 13.70% in 2007 with 68,082 attending in 2007 as opposed to 59,878 in 2006. The attendance increase came despite the fact that only 35 days of live racing were conducted in 2007 versus 39 in 2006. Average attendance at the Aurora oval increased on average by 410 guests per day (1,945 in 2007 versus 1,535 in 2006). Arapahoe Park opened on Memorial Day (May 26-28) weekend in 2007, two weeks earlier than in 2006. Closing was also moved forward from Labor Day in 2006 to August 12th in 2007.

Belmont Park is the home of the 140th Running of the Belmont Stakes on June 7, 2008.

Beulah Park

Founded in 1923, Beulah Park holds the distinction of being Ohio's "first original" racetrack. During the early years, the track enjoyed a reputation as the "Little Saratoga" of the Midwest. The track can be an exciting place for the entire family. In recent years, the reputation of the historic Grove City facility has been enhanced by a multimillion dollar master plan of redevelopment and restoration. Since the purchase of the track by Columbus developer Charles Ruma in 1986, more than 12 million has been spent on improvements to the grandstand, clubhouse, and backside barn areas. In addition to a new banked and spiraled track surface, Beulah Park built a new modern outdoor paddock area and plaza, along with an outdoor walking ring that has become the showpiece of the restoration project.

Canterbury Park

Canterbury Park Racetrack and Card Club is a year-round entertainment destination. Located in Shakopee, Minnesota, Canterbury Park is just 25 minutes from both downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul. The Festival is one of the premiere events of its kind in the world. It brings fun, excitement, international recognition and a spirit that is unmatched anywhere. Each Spring nearly 1.5 million people gather to celebrate the unique vitality of the Louisville community.

Its beauty has been well documented with aesthetics second to none.

Gulfstream Park

The main track is 1 1/8 miles in circumference and the turf course is seven furlongs. The turf course is 170 feet wide, which allows the inner rail to be moved in and out, thereby reducing wear and tear, which in turn allows for more turf races to be carded. Highlights will again be the $1 million Florida Derby (won in 2006 by America's Horse, Barbaro), the $3.6 million Sunshine Millions series, the $500,00 Donn Handicap, the Gulfstream Park Breeders' Cup Turf, the Fountain of Youth and Holy Bull stakes and the Gulfstream Park, Pan Am and Orchid handicaps. The Sunshine Millions program, inaugurated in 2003, has been a hit with horsemen as well as fans. This innovative eight-race series is restricted to horses bred in California and Florida: On a rotating basis, four races are run at Gulfstream Park and four races are run at Santa Anita, Gulfstream Park's sister track in the family of tracks owned by Magna Entertainment Corp. The Millions, the brainchild of MEC chairman Frank Stronach, are worth a total of $3.6 million. Past winners include the popular Lost in the Fog as well as Musique Toujours, Secret Request and Red Warrior, each of whom paid winning mutuels of nearly/or more than $100.

California fairs are the very heart of horse racing. Since the early days of exploration and settlement, people have come together at certain times of the year to enjoy the festival of a season, the anniversary of a place, or the celebration of a special event. Twenty six percent of Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino's revenue goes to taxes, which in turn go to New Mexico's general fund. An additional twenty percent of revenue goes towards the horseman's account. All monies in the horseman's account contributes to horse racing purses at Sunland Park and has had a profound effect on the quality of our live race meet.
