Mayweather-Pacquiao on the back burner again

Las Vegas, NV (World Wide Gamble) - The mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. will apparently not happen this year, as the suggested deadline to sign a deal has come and gone.

The Mayweather camp did not respond to Bob Arum's self-imposed midnight (pt) cutoff to agree to a much-anticipated November 13th showdown.

"Floyd for whatever reason, and I'm sure he's got some valid reason, did not want to commit," said Arum, Pacquiao's promoter, in a press conference.

The Top Rank CEO indicated he did not speak directly to Mayweather but rather through a mediator. Pacquiao, who recently became a congressman in the Philippines, intends to fight in November, and all signs point to either Miguel Cotto or Antonio Margarito taking on the current welterweight champion.

The newest development in this saga comes several months after Pacquiao refused to submit random blood tests within 30 days prior to a proposed fight date with Mayweather. Arum, though, says that hurdle has been crossed

"I'm not going to go into specifics, but I think that issue was resolved," Arum said in regards to blood testing. "Not as clear cut as [a two-week window prior to the fight], but I believe it was resolved. "

After the previous negotiations fell through, the fighters opted to get in the ring with different opponents, with Pacquiao (51-3-2) handling Joshua Clottey in a unanimous decision in March, and Mayweather (41-0) doing the same to Shane Mosley two months later.
