Gstaad, Switzerland (World Wide Gamble) - Russian top seed Mikhail Youzhny was a second-round winner Thursday at the Swiss Open Gstaad.

The world No. 14 Youzhny handled Swiss wild card Alexander Sadecky 7-5, 6-4 on the clay courts at Roy Emerson Arena. The Russian reached the quarterfinals in 1 hour, 23 minutes, swatting seven aces and tallying three service breaks en route to victory.

Youzhny's opponent on Friday will be qualifier fellow Russian Yuri Schukin, who advanced with a 6-3, 6-3 pasting of Portuguese Frederico Gil.

Second-seeded Nicolas Almagro of Spain fought his way into the quarters with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Swiss wild card Michael Lammer. Almagro's quarterfinal opponent will be capable Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, who got past Finnish veteran Jarkko Nieminen 7-5, 6-2.

In a match that was suspended because of darkness on Wednesday, Russian Igor Andreev outlasted Swiss favorite Marco Chiudinelli 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (8-6). The bout was suspended at 6-6 in the third set, as Andreev snuck out the tiebreak on Thursday.

Andreev will meet Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver here on Friday.

Rain disrupted play on Thursday, but the schedule was ultimately completed.

Another quarterfinal on Friday will pit fourth-seeded Spaniard Albert Montanes against seventh-seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet. Montanes titled in Stuttgart two weeks ago. Gasquet was the Gstaad champion back in 2006.
